About Our Products
At Blingdom we use only the finest quality products that give you the best value for your money and will also last for many years with proper care taking.
Our chains and findings are all Sterling Silver (925). In the New Year we will be introducing a line of fine silver products which has a 99.9 sterling silver purity rating.
What makes up sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. This gives the product the stability and durability required for larger products.
Gold and Gold Filled
Some of our chains, spacers and findings (clasps and earring posts) are 10K, 14K & 18K. These products are often custom made due to the high price of gold, which doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
We have found a product that is more cost effective and has a life span similar to gold which is called Gold Filled. Gold filled is not to be confused with gold plated, as there is approx 100 times more gold in gold fill, than there is on plated gold pieces. The gold layer is usually 50 to 100 times thicker as compared to what is on a gold plated item. Often referred to as rolled gold, Gold Fill is very hard wearing and should last a lifetime under normal wearing conditions. I work with 12K, 14K, and 23K that fits the individual design of the piece. My customers have been very happy with their jewelry and I have personally found it to look and wear like traditional gold pieces without the hefty price tag.
Intro To Pearls
Pearls have been prized for their beauty and rarity for more than four thousands years. From ancient China, Indian and Egypt, to Imperial Rome, the Arab world, to Native American tribes, cultures from around the world and through recorded history have valued these unique, biologically based gemstones – much long than any other gem.
The pearl is the only gemstone which is grown inside of a living organism. Pearls are formed within oysters or mollusks, when a foreign substance invades the shell of the mollusk and enters the soft tissue. In response to the irritation a substance is secreted called nacre, the same substance which makes up the interior of the oyster’s shell. It builds up in layers around the irritant, forming the pearl.

I work primarily in freshwater pearls. I have found that the price, the colour and size variety as well as the quality to meet the needs of my customers. I work closely with a supplier that purchases directly from China for my specific needs. I am also able to buy in large quantities which is helpful in keeping my prices below many of my competitors.
How are Pearls priced? The quality and thus the value of a pearl is measured according to a combination of several different factors; the type of pearl, the thickness of its nacres, its luster, the cleanliness and texture of its surface, is shape, its colour, and its size. These factors vary greatly as mother nature has a very creative streak in her.
Pearls come in various sizes as well with the larger sizes commanding higher prices. Most pearls are in the 6.5 to 7 millimeters but I love to work with 8 to 9.5 millimeters for the bold statement they make. Of course I do carry a the more traditional, classic strands of pearls for their timeless quality. If Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O can do it I think we all can. Ladies, put your pearls on and go out on the town.
The Length of pearl necklacesThe length of pearls is important. We all have preferences as to where we like our necklaces to fall (this is our signature style) but each fashion style as a unique requirement for necklaces. This is my justification to own several strands of varying lengths and colours.
- Choker – 16 inches This is the most classic style of pearls and perhaps the most versatile look. It goes with casual and classic styles.
- Princess – 18 inches This one is my favourite. This length is best for crew and high necklines but it is great for those low neckline days and nights.
- Matinee 20 to 24 inches long. This is a great length for most of us as it is in between the princess and the opera lengths. The long length necklaces start to get a little more expensive but they are very flexible. I have seen some very cool ladies using these to wrap their wrists in an exquisite bracelet style for those with a sense of flair. Pearls in this format with nice dangly chain pearl earrings is a great look.
- Opera 28 to36 inches This is the great dame of all necklaces. This strand can be worn on its own or doubled upon itself for a versatile accessory.
